Greetings to the Good People of An Tir and Wealdsmere,

For those citizens of Wealdsmere who are not on the Steps list, I am terribly saddened to inform you that Master Mischka Ravensfuri passed away this Monday after a tragic motorcycle accident.

Most here would know that Master Mischka spent many years of his early SCA career in Wealdsmere and Silverhart.  He moved away to the coast long ago and I am sure there are many folk in the Inlands who have joined in recent years that never got the chance to meet him or realize how much he did for our group.

To me, he was a good friend, one of the first people I met when I moved up here from Caid.  But when word of his passing came to our Barony it became apparent just how many lives he had touched, how many Acorns he had planted that have grown to mighty Oaks.  He was a Leader, a Teacher, an Inspiration.

Kiri….I am so sorry.

Word came via cell phone to Celtic Revolt on Sunday that the doctors knew his injuries were bound to be fatal.  We found out literally moments before commencing the first round of our Championship Tourney.  HG Gunnarr made a plea for prayers, and I know many words rose to strengthen Mischka.  Alas, Fate would have it that he answer that call that we all must answer one day.

The only way we were able to continue was to think, what would he want us to do?  Anyone who knew him could see him give that smirk, shrug, toss his head and say “Ah!  Fight you guys!  Have fun, and have one for me tonight!”  Which is what we did.

We began every fight with an invocation to his name.  It has come to me that the timing of his first home receiving this dread news at that particular moment is not something that should be forgotten, just as Mischa himself will never be forgotten.  With the permission of his Lady and absent objection from members of his House, I would like to hold Wealdsmere Championship Lists from this time forward as a Memorial Tournament for him, a man who did so much for our area.

Again my condolences to those who knew him, loved him and are hurting right now.  There are many.

Use the time you have well, and be Kind to one another.

In Sorrow and with Respect,

Sir Caieth of Umber, Wealdsmere
