Good morning Emmelyn! I have missed you, and I am hoping we can schedule
some upcoming sewing-finish what-we-started time, maybe either this week since
it is my spring break and C is working, or maybe against Art of War?? I know
you are working two jobs, so if the idea just makes you laugh, well, I
understand. But let me know if there is a time that might work for you. :)
As far as Champions for Wealdsmere, there are five competitions and titles
to be won: Heavy, Rapier, Archery, Bardic, and Arts and Sciences.
The latter two require no skill at arms, so they were what I was thinking of
for Courtiers, although if you want to try your hand at Archery, or whatever,
be my guest.
The Bardic competition will be Saturday evening, and includes song, story,
epic poem, dance, (puppetry, juggling,...entertainment of any kind). Judges
will include myself, some newcomers, some peers, and scoring parameters will
be published prior to the event. Last year's champion was Ragnor's wife,
Lunah. It will include Bardic participation that is not for competition, like
group sing-a-longs, for breaks.
The A&S competition is still being outlined, by last year's champion Elaine
de Parfondeval and ourselves, and is up for discussion at the Council
meeting. It will occur under the Baronial Pavilion along with A&S classes on
Sunday, adjoining the Tourney field where Heavy will be decided for high
visibility. Newcomers are invited to compete, and will be judged differently (I
believe Elaine suggested the definition be those playing five years or less).
Entries can include needlework, garb, jewellry, glass beads you made, scroll
work, leatherwork, ceramics, food, candles, what have you... Brief documentation
is required for entries (not for newcomers) that simply say what was the
process, culture/history, inspiration, method, etc. For the title of Champion,
entries in multiple areas will be encouraged. Again, scoring parameters will
be published prior to the event, once we have had a chance to discuss and
finalize them.
To answer your question, which contest you enter is completely your choice.
I have no interest in stressing anyone out, but Sergeants are an elite
group, and they should naturally be leaders who at least participate, even if they
don't go full-guns after the title of Champion. Let me know what you think.
Love,
Araviere
