Greetings to All,
Araviere recently posted a letter in regards to virtue and I have been
gratified by the awesome response, specifically emanating from our Samurai
personnae on the Silverhart list. Thank you; I have been edified and at times all
members of the Society should reflect upon the fact that we are an Educational
Society.
Sure, it is fun to camp in a dress and beat up on your best drinking
buddies; there is so, so, soooo much more that unites us.
This snippet below in particular inspired me to respond:
>>>And if I may address a lesser point, I may address you as 'Lord' because
your inner nobility shines through in your words and deeds, and it is not
merely rote courtesy but also recognition that bids me to do so. I
appreciate your humility, but insist you concede this point to me, to please me.
Do not fear that it lessens any who have earned awards or titles - they know
their worth.
Besides, there are many deserving folk whom their neighbors recognize as
deserving, long before the SCA machine catches up.<<<
All those who participate, be they First Timers or Dukes, are assumed to
have Noble Status. The Hierarchy in the SCA exists for a reason, mainly an
administrative reason, IMHO. In the Kingdom of my birth, the Royal Crowns have
an inscription on them: "You Rule Because They Believe."
I am not a fan of the "They" concept in most cases. The "You" changes every
6 months; the "They" stays the same. So in that sense, the "They" is Us -
and that is the Majesty of our club.
Think on that, Nakagawa Sukeie-domo. Arigato.
Cheers,
Caieth
