Greetings Everyone,
Meave and Tristan of Meaves Unmentionables ( they came over for July Coro last year and have been to a few other events around) had a horific event last week. Thier oldest son Sam (they have 5 kids rangeing from 10 to 1 1/2) fell out of his second story window, he stopped breathing three times and Meave brought him back with CPR, He was at HarborView where they fused his C1-C3, There has been alot going on lately and the email below helps give information for those of you not on the Steps.
This is a true SCA family and very good friends of mine. They could use help, everything from prayers to financial. If you can donate anything you can contact me at this email address or at my cell phone 868-6418.
Thanks,
Muirenn
Lady Muirenn inghean Dearbhailco-Lady of AnseacarLo, there do I see my fatherLo, there do I see my mother and my sisters and my brothersLo, there do I see the line of my people back to the beginningLo, they do call to meThey bid me take place among them in the Halls of ValhallaWhere the brave may live forever...> From: zingaro at oyaentertainment.com> To: steps at antir.sca.org> Date: Mon, 7 Jul 2008 20:57:20 -0700> Subject: [STEPS] Update -- Sam's condition and avenues to help> > (Please repost to Merchant's list as I don't have access there )> > > > Once more thanks to all for the energies and offers to help. After an update on Sam's condition, below are all current drop off points for donations, suggestions for same and the account information for those of you who've been asking about financial donations.> > > > After his surgery Sam was able a couple of times to feel people touching him, wiggled his toes once and could tell the nurse once whether she was moving his hands up or down -- all very good signs.> > > > Sam was transferred to Children's hospital Sunday afternoon - a full week before they planned. He's in ICU but we're all praying his stay there will be short and he'll be in a Rehab unit soon.> > > > He gave everyone a couple scares today when his heart stopped, but the doctors think that may be a 'good bad thing' - they are hoping it's his brain trying to communicate that his heart doesn't need to work so hard anymore (his resting heart rate had been very high) and that channel of communication through his spinal column being confused as those signals begin to work again.> > > > He'll have a tracheostomy done in the next day or two so the breathing tube can be removed - he'll be doing a lot better then as he's getting frustrated not being able to communicate beyond blinking responses. This procedure is also far ahead of the time frame they were expecting.> > > > I just came from the hospital and while I was there he was fairly steadily initiating breathing from his diaphragm - another excellent sign. He's a strong boy and is fighting really hard - I know that with your continued prayers and energy support he's going to prove the Harbor view docs (who said he'd never feel anything from the neck down again) to be wrong.> > > > How you can help - as many of you know, this family are SCA merchants. Their income is reliant on Gypsy Caravan eventing and Jeni's time to design and sew orders from Maeve's Unmentionables. This tragedy occurred just as they were loading up for An Tir/West War so they've already suffered a blow and given the circumstances the next few months are going to be tough. There are five children, dogs and horses to feed and with gas prices what they are, the commutes from Arlington to Children's are going to be costly.> > > > For those of you who've been asking, we have two accounts set up for financial donations:> > > > 1) US Bank - at any US Bank branch you can ask to make a deposit to the Samuel Thomason account.> > 2) There is also a PayPal account set up under helphealsam at gmail.com> > > > We have various drop off points for other items in various Branches listed below and a network of friends who can pick things up for those who can't get to a drop off point. Aside from suggested items here, many are donating items for a garage sale which we'll be organizing in coming weeks.> > > > As we can arrange them, I'll update the drop off point list. Meanwhile, if there's no one in your area and you wish to contribute something, please call me. Nextel/Sprint 425-508-2569 or AT&T 206-658-7398.> > > > Suggestions for needed items (there are no food or other allergies to be concerned with):> > > > 1) Grocery and gas gift cards as those won't expire so will be available for them when they need it.> > 2) Pantry items for the long haul> > 3) Fresh produce - especially oranges, bananas and apples for the kids> > 4) Household goods - toilet paper, detergent, soap, shampoo, etc. - anything will help defray costs in coming months.> > 5) Children's clothes if you have any that have been outgrown. They especially need clothes for their 24 month old boy. Any other clothes (especially pants) sizes 4 - 5, 8 and 10 - 12> > 6) Dog food - high protein as the dogs are part wolf> > 7) Sr. feed grain for the horses> > > > These are just suggestions - many of you have come up with ideas that are extremely helpful, so keep them coming and realize that anything you can do will be greatly appreciated.> > > > Above all, please keep the prayers and strong thoughts coming.
