I am forwarding exerpts of correspondence between Lady Arnora in
Grimwithshire and myself, because her questions may be shared by others, and several
people have given me the feedback that they like to know what's going on. If
you're not one of them, forgive the intrusion; 'delete' is easy to press. :)
Do you have retinue and if so will they need to be seated near to you? I am
happy to accommodate as much as possible.
I like to leave seating at the head table open until we ascertain who is
present. Lady Emelyn is chief lady-in-waiting, and she can coordinate with you
on site as to table and court arrangements. If Duke Gunar and Duchess
Gabriell are there, of course they should be given seats of honour, along with any
other Royal Peers or Peers of the Realm (knights, laurels, pelicans). If
there is space, I have three or four ladies who will sit near me, our daughter,
and two of Caieth’s squires, who are also Sergeants and therefore baronial
guard. I can try to give you a hard number if you need it, but at this
moment I am guessing perhaps six or eight.
Waterbearing officer is still unfilled. In the past I have done waterbearing
for Wealdsmere events and I have made it known at meetings that I am
available if needed
Fantastic! Please consider yourself tapped until further notice. Will you
be available to be primarily responsible (the coordinator, even if you
delegate the work) at Celtic Revolt? Other Wealdsmere events? Please let me know
your schedule. I am truly grateful for the offer and for the help.
One more question: I am working on a class for Basketry; choosing suitable
ones for eventing, their use in our time periods, care and basic construction,
etc. I used to teach this course in Oertha and have updated all of my
handouts. If this sounds like something you might like at an event let me know and
I will be glad to present it.
How lovely – talk about a useful skill! I will absolutely be calling on
you. HE Kelta is the new A&S Officer of Wealdsmere, and Sir Jorg is A&S for the
Canton of Silverhart. I find I am organizing many ‘work parties’ and would
love to coordinate with you. I have talked with both Kelta and Jorg about
the need to step up the availability of A&S experiences, for both dedicated
artists as well as newcomers or dabblers. We have considered many models,
from privately hosted work parties on weeknights, to demonstrations or hands-on “
Make and Takes” at events, particularly indoor tourney/feast events (wars are
often just too busy…). I would like input also from those who coordinate
Ithra. Several people have expressed interest in teaching, from dancing,
candle making, bead making, jewelry making, painting, scribing, costuming,
ceramics, wax casting, and metal work so I know the skills and willingness to
share are out there, I just am not sure the best forums and, knowing me, will
likely try them all and see the turn-out. Any thoughts are welcome.
Do you need any Baronial Charters painted? I have run through my stock of
Kingdom charters and am looking for new ones to illuminate! I did several for
Brandt and Kelta and I would like to hold a class and teach a couple of
people here how to do them, too.
Emphatic yes! I started over with all new wording and designs for award
scrolls, and have several charters ready to paint, and several in the process.
If you enjoy the artistry of design, I am soliciting new ideas, and if you
prefer painting, I can bring printed charters. I am planning to bring some to
Tourney of the Wolves already, and then I will host another Scribal Arts
party at my house in late March (after Oasis…)
Lastly, can you answer if there is a ball/music/dancing? A masked ball?
(Are you making masks there, or are people encouraged to bring their own)? Is
there a bardic competition during dinner like last year? Perhaps you could
forward a tentative schedule for the day’s events, so that we all work
together smoothly.
Lady, your offers of support are most welcome. Truly, since we met at Grim
Offensive has been only some short years, yet your hospitality and work ethic
are well known. And the labors we are undertaking in the Barony and its
environs are extensive, so we appreciate your gracious and tireless willingness
to help.
With gratitude for your service,
Araviere
Baroness Wealdsmere
