Greetings All,

This weekend I was appointed by the Kingdom Youth Armored Combat Marshall to serve as the Inlands Region Youth Armored Combat Marshall. While not quite as awesome as spidey-powers, it does allow me to help others pursue careers as YAC marshalls within the Inlands and help promote this aspect of the game within the region. Of course, with a parent's permission, I will be happy to authorize all young fighters that have demonstrated the capability of taking the field safely armed and armored.

The armor requirements are simple for those of use familiar with Adult Heavy rules. They are generally the same as the ABC's, except that the rigid protection can normally be much lighter. For example, the plastic from a 5 gallon barrel is sufficiently rigid for everything but the helmet. For the Youth Senior Division steel helmets are now preferred. But a good hockey helmet with a drape covering the neck (front and back) will potentially pass.

Weapons are constructed from Schedule 40 3/4" PVC (High pressure Schedule 40 is banned) or 3/4" Pex. All ends of the pipes must be fitted with caps and glued on. The pipe must be at least wrapped once spirally with strapping tape (I recommend an extra wrap or two to stiffen up PEX). Then pipe insulation, excersice mat, or other closed cell foam of not less than 3/8" thickness around the pipe, followed by either duct or strapping tape. Thrusting tips must have 2" of compressible foam. No metal or wood whatsoever may be in the construction of a YAC weapon.

I must also report that, according to our Kingdom officer, Corpora has announced that background checks are in the pipeline for YAC marshalls and to my understanding others that host activities for minors. I realize that no one likes red tape, but this one is quite understandable and has my full support. Once the background checks are established, I believe the YAC program can grow in a way similar to what you might see your local Boys and Girls Club does for soccer. Until then, I cannot foresee how any officer could in good conscience "advertise" our program to parents outside of our game.

At any rate for now, the requirement has not been implemented, but please do not pursue becoming a YAC Marshall if you are unwilling to submit to such a check -- in the end you'll just be wasting everyone's time.

In Service,
Hallgrim
